Health Benefits & Coaching
Everyone knows that tea is healthy for you. But here are six areas that especially shine when it comes to your well-being.
COMMUNITY
You may not have thought about this before, but tea brings people together and community is extremely important to our wellbeing and longevity. If you look at the blue zones across the world, where people live the longest, they all eat different things, live in different climates, etc. The ONE thing they have in common is their focus on community. Our communities are our support system, source of nurturing and belonging.
Getting together over tea is a tradition thousands of years old and one we are so inspired by at the Scented Leaf. We have actually seen amazing connections, best friends, even marriages come out of people meeting at the tea house.
IMMUNITY
It is no shock that tea strengthens the immune system.
Black, green and white teas and even herbal teas contain disease-fighting polyphenols, which are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and detoxifying compounds that rid our bodies of free radicals.
Green and white tea, and to a lesser extent, black tea, contain a compound called EGCG. This is a group of catechins or natural antioxidants that help prevent cell damage from things like sun exposure, environmental toxins, inflammation, bacteria and viruses, and may even prevent cancer. That’s because EGCG in green tea might bind to certain proteins in cancer cells and stop their proliferation or help promote cancer cell death

ENERGY & FOCUS
Black (including pu erh and oolong teas), and green and white teas provide a nice energy boost without the crash of more caffeinated stimulants like coffee. Because tea may increase brain cognition, particularly working memory, this is something to remember the next time you’re studying for an exam.

METABOLISM
Drinking green and white tea is one of the easiest ways to burn fat. That’s because it contains an abundance of catechins, which increase thermogenesis (calorie burning) and prevent the damaging effects of free radicals on your metabolism.

LONGEVITY
Black, green and white teas show promise in fighting diabetes, cholesterol and overall fat, not to mention benefits to cardiovascular health, including decreasing your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Because it helps decrease inflammation.
These antioxidants may also inhibit the molecules in your immune system that trigger inflammation and joint pain. Remember, Inflammation can be a good thing as your body’s immune response to being under attack from pathogens or other triggers. But when it’s chronic, it can lead to other dis-ease, which can then lead to joint pain, weight gain and serious diseases like heart disease, fatty liver disease and Alzheimer’s.
Herbal teas are also amazing. For instance, hibiscus, which has been used in Chinese folk medicine to treat high blood pressure and inflammation for centuries.

ZEN
Black, green and white teas also contain the amino acid L-theanine, which is not present in coffee, and can help you feel calmer. There is also something to be said about the ritual of steeping tea or preparing tea for a friend that elevates your mood and can make you feel more grounded.
So, there you have it, some of our favorite health benefits that keep us drinking tea everyday!
